Objective of Asociación Sordos Limón (ASORLI)
Now I will ask 5 important questions,
1. What is the objective of the ASORLI Organization?
Eliana, ok, the goal of ASORLI is to empower the deaf people of Limón from ASORLI through development — policies through rights in formal and non-formal education, technology skills, professionalism, and being economically independent as a Limón deaf person.
Support for deaf person in Limón
Question for Erick,
2. What type of support does the deaf person have in Limón?
Erick, There is the IMAS, which is the Social Assistance Institute, which helps deaf people who do not have a job, each of those without pensions is helped.
CCSS, similarly helps in pensions for people who do not have work.
TEC, the Technological University, helps by providing classrooms that are used to teach LESCO to hearing and deaf people.
INAMU, National Women’s Institute helps with workshops for women to learn skills.
Afro community in Costa Rica in Limón
The third question, Erick, what can you tell us the Afro-community in Costa Rica, in Limón?
Erick, There is no discrimination by ethnic group, black deaf people, everyone is equal, is shared, there is good communication between all blacks, Chinese, white, all, is a normal communication, it is the basis of our education.
Comparison between Deaf people of Limón and San José
Fourth question,
What comparison can be made between the deaf people of Limón and San José?
Kyara, the comparison between San José and Limón, for example the level of education in San José is higher, they are very strong in the use of signs, they are focused on the use of LESCO, they are not worried about situations such as abuse or violence they are more focused on the use and creation of signs in LESCO, but in Limón education is different, its level is low, it is very basic, there are very few professionals, if we have some good teachers but they are very few, there are many very poor deaf people , who suffer from abuse, violence, worries more about avoiding these situations, it is also observed that the people of San José do not help the people of Limón, that is very clear.

Why is the black person important in Costa Rica?
Eliana, the culture in Costa Rica is important because it has many advantages for its traditions that are from many years ago and that on August 31 is the day where the Afro-Community is celebrated — its delicious meals, dances, calypso music are signed, we have very traditional, parades with beautiful costumes which are homemade. All is seen and enjoyed, all participate in the different activities,

Objectivo de la Asociación Sordos Limón (ASORLI)
Ahora realizaré 5 preguntas importantes,
1. ¿Cuál es el objetivo de la Organización ASORLI?
Eliana,ok, el objetivo de ASORLI es empoderar a las personas sordas de Limón de ASORLI a través de políticas de desarrollo, a través de los derechos en la enseñanza formal y no formal, tecnología, ser profesional, e independiente a nivel económico de la persona sorda de Limón.
Apoyo para la persona sorda en Limón
Pregunta para Erick,
2. ¿Cuál es el tipo de apoyo que tiene la persona sorda en Limón?
Erick,está el IMAS, el cual es el Instituto de ayuda social, que da ayuda a personas sordas que no tienen trabajo, se les da ayuda a cada uno de los que no tienen pensiones.
CCSS,de igual forma ayuda en pensiones para las personas que no tienen trabajo.
ElTEC,la universidad Tecnológica, ayuda prestando aulas que se utilizan para enseñar LESCO a personas oyentes y también sordas.
INAMU,Instituto Nacional de la mujer ayuda con talleres para que las mujeres aprendan.
La persona negra en Costa Rica en Limón
La tercera pregunta, Erick, ¿Qué nos puedes decir la persona negra en Costa Rica, en Limón?
Erick,No hay discriminación por grupo étnico, a los sordos negros, todos son iguales, se comparte, hay buena comunicación entre todos negros, chinos, blancos, todos, es una comunicación normal, es base de la educación.
Comparación entre las personas sordas de Limón y San José
Cuarta Pregunta,
¿Qué comparación se puede hacer entre las personas sordas de Limón y San José?
Kyara,la comparación entre San José y Limón, por ejemplo el nivel de educación en San José es más elevado, son muy fuertes en el uso de señas, están centrados en el uso de la LESCO, no están preocupados por situaciones como abusos o violencias están más centrados en el uso y creación de señas en LESCO, pero en Limón es diferente la educación su nivel es bajo, es muy básico, hay muy pocos profesionales, si tenemos algunos docentes buenos pero son muy pocos, hay muchas personas sordas muy pobres, que sufren de abusos, de violencia, se preocupa más por evitar estas situaciones, también se observa que las personas de San José no ayudan a las personas de Limón, eso se ve muy claro.

¿Por qué es importante la persona negra en Costa Rica?
Eliana,la cultura en Costa Rica es importante porque posee muchas ventajas por sus tradiciones que son de muchos años atrás y que el 31 de agosto se celebra el día de la persona negra, se ven sus ricas comidas, bailes, música Calipso que es muy tradicional, se realizan desfiles con hermosos trajes, se ve y se disfruta, todos participan en las diferentes actividades,

The Afro community in Limón, Costa Rica has a rich cultural heritage. They have an annual celebration of their heritage on August 31st. But what about Deaf people? Meet some of the leaders of Asociación Sordos Limón, a Afro-Deaf-led organization who focuses on the development of policies through in-formal and non-formal education settings. Watch as they compare the lives of Deaf Afro-Costa Ricans in Limón and the Deaf community in Costa Rica’s capital, San José.
